  • Family history for beginners
  • Australian land records
  • Australian military records
  • Australian immigration records
  • Writing life stories

I have experience delivering workshops and lectures at community centres, family history groups, the Public Record Office Victoria and National Army Museum London.

What participants said:
'Very entertaining and informative.'
'You have inspired me to search further.'
'Clear, selective, no waffle.'

Research

Check facts or fill in gaps.
  • Full research or lookups
  • Archives and libraries in Melbourne, Australia
  • Effective online searches.

Integrity matters to me. I will always treat you fairly.
At your initial inquiry I will send you information about how to get the best value for your research.

See examples of my research in the Write and Edit section.

Write and Edit

Examples of my research and writing:
  • Digging for gold in Victoria, Internet Genealogy, August/September 2021
  • Australian Catholic Assurance building, History News, Royal Historical Society Victoria, Issue 355, August 2021
  • The Best Land Act: hope and despair at Merton, published in Provenance, Issue 16 2018, journal of Public Record Office Victoria. Issue won the Mander Jones award.
  • Military exemption courts in 1916, published in Provenance, Issue 14 2015.

Case study 1: My role in local history website for Koonung Cottage.:
  • recommend using website format
  • assist with the funding application
  • research all content
  •  write the text
  • design and create the website.

Case study 2: I edited Don's story and prepared several family tree charts to include in the book.

I found Jennifer McNeice to be instantly helpful, extremely competent and a delight to deal with. I would not have been able to complete my family memoir without the help from Jen and I fully recommend her to any person thinking of embarking on a similar project.

Life story

Choose your level of support; research, write, edit, family trees, layout.
Tips to overcome writing hurdles.
Options for people who don't have the energy to write.
Through experience I have developed efficient strategies for many situations.

Case study 3: I helped Carolyn's Dad extend his family tree, research events in his own life and structure his story.

Thank you so much for all that you are doing for dad. He is LOVING this journey of discovery about his family. It’s given him a new sense of purpose and joy.
Carolyn (Victoria)

Family trees

Free templates in a range of styles.

Thank you for the family tree charts - they are brilliant!
Just a note to say thank you! I've looked for good family tree charts online a number of times and there is so much rubbish out there - or links to free charts that aren't free, or aren't what they said they were, and so on. Your charts on Highlight Press are brilliant.

Anne (New Zealand)

Personal charts made to order

Case study 4: Leonard wanted a six-generation descendant chart including all children and grandchildren of his direct ancestors. I designed an A1 size chart and created a file for him to print in Canada.

The skills and interest demonstrated by Jennifer is amazing. Taking an uncoordinated mass of dates and names and producing a magnificent ancestral document, my family tree, was beyond my expectations.
Leonard Patrick Hickey (Canada)

Cryptic Crosswords
Lateral thinking helps you solve family history puzzles.
Develop skills with cryptic crosswords.

Cards
Family historians often lament the transient nature of communication today. Emails and texts won't be kept for future historians. Handmade cards are more likely to be treasured. See my Cards page for custom-made options and do-it-yourself inspiration.
